This week, you will see a short excerpt from the Italian source of Barlaam and Josaphat. It is a 14th century Leggenda di Santo Giosafà, by Neri Di Landoccio Pagliaresi, Sienese nobleman and refined poet, Ste Catherine of Siena’s personal secretary. In this excerpt, Neri tells us the story of Josaphat’s confined childhood in the palace where he was closed by his father, and his desire to go out and see the outside world. But we – stay home.
